Dr Samantha Zoltek-Skik, MDM
I was once told that when becoming a dentist, you become three things – a Doctor, an Engineer, and an artist all in one. My calling into the field of dentistry occurred at a very young age when I was intrigued by dentistry’s unique ability to provide immediate alleviation of pain with the added bonus of providing an artistic side to medicine. My four years of clinical experience as a dental student has allowed me to enhance patient self-esteem through the transformation of their smile. In addition to that, through the fabrication of dental prostheses, my clinical experience has allowed me to treat patients suffering from malnutrition as a result of complete or partial edentulism. I was drawn toward the field of dentistry because it is truly the only branch of medicine that allows you to treat a patient’s insecurities through smile transformation as well as improve their speech, phonetics, nutrition, and of course, the dreaded tooth ache.
I have the privilege of attending Midwestern University’s College of Dentistry, which has exceeded my clinical expectations through their ability to stay up to date with rapid technological advancements in the field of dentistry. During my clinical education, I have become certified in Laser and Invisalign treatment, as well as becoming BLS and CPR certified. I have received extensive training in handling medical emergencies in the dental office including, but not limited to, episodes of syncope, cardiac arrest, hypoglycemia, anaphylaxis, and epilepsy. I am experienced with CAD/CAM, the Bicon implant System, CBCT scans, oral surgery, and endodontic treatment.
When I am not practicing dentistry, I stay very involved in my Polish Highlander culture which includes traditional Polish dancing, singing, and accordion playing. Additionally, I enjoy practicing my manual dexterity though traditional Polish embroidery and art.
